The Edifier M3200BT home audio speaker
Review by Emily Hirschmann
I recently, reluctantly, got rid of my old CD player. There was nothing wrong with it – the charity shop was delighted with it – I’d simply run out of space. The problem is that I’m still a CD-listener at heart. Of course; I use an iPod and iPhone like everyone else, but I own more CDs than will fit on my devices, and I often don’t know what I feel like listening to until I’ve perused my CD shelves. Within days of parting with my old faithful stereo I was lamenting my hasty decision, even contemplating buying it back, but then Edifier provided me with another answer.
Slinky, stylish and significantly smaller than my old multi-disc beast, the Edifier M3200BT home audio speaker set takes the tinny tones of a laptop or MP3 player and transforms them into something worth listening to. The three-piece set comprises a wood-enclosed subwoofer for a truly smooth sound, and two elegant hourglass satellite speakers, which catch the eye when on display, as well as allowing for a surround-sound effect.
Incredibly easy to set up and use, the speaker’s main interface is a standard auxiliary in port, which makes it compatible with pretty much any CD player, laptop, PC or television currently in production. Add to that however, it comes with Bluetooth capabilities, broadening its functionality for use with the vast majority of smartphones and MP3 players. Although I’ve tried it on my telly (just out of curiosity – I don’t really watch it enough to need surround sound), I mainly use the speakers with my laptop, and the Beatles sound as good as ever they’ve done before! When I’m not working and fancy some music I just use the Bluetooth connection to access my digital jukebox and the quality comes through clearly and crisply – even the bass sounds good, which is a rarity when it comes to digital playback. With a wired remote, controlling the volume is quick and simple, as is powering off/on.
I won’t deny that I still miss my CD player – I loved being able to put in five disks and leaving the machine to surprise me – but with the Edifier M3200BT home audio speaker set I can still listen to my favourites, or dip into my rarely-visited-but-still-treasured teenage CD collection, without loss of quality. It’s also increased my appreciation of my digital collection, and when it comes to speaker systems, you can’t really ask for more than that.
