Kids. They're funny things. You try to make sweeping statements such as "they love bum jokes" and "EVERY child loves pasta"... but there's always a fussy one to trip you up.
But you'd be hard pushed to find a child who could refuse pasta shaped like stars and moons, wouldn't you? What about animals? Ghosts?
Yup, Garofalo's La Giostra Dei Bambini range is super cute - and delicious. It even comes in packets which DON'T shred at the seams when you open them!
My boys adored the stars and moons, calling them "delicious." They held their shape well – nothing worse than a soggy moon – and had a great authentic Italian AL dente texture.
Meanwhile the ghosts were inspected for just long enough before being scoffed in a dish of my famous "Pasta, Bacon, Cheesy Peas."
But don't think the kids get all the fun here... oh no. Garofalo have a mind-boggling range of unusual pasta varieties.
– similar to a delicate open penne or a tagliatelle with curled up edges. Like most of the varieties it cooks in 11 mins and its twists and turns mean it hangs onto delicious sauce really well.
Or what about a new take on an old favourite? Fusilli lunghi is, well, really really long fusilli!
The downsides of this one? Unless you're blessed with a tall spaghetti pot it is tricky to get into a pan in one go without singeing the ends.
Not to mention the whopping SIXTEEN MINUTE cooking time. Nonetheless, it's worth the wait and my husband's childlike glee at tackling a plate of giant spirals tossed with roasted squash, chilli and crispy sage certainly brought a smile to my face.
Delicious, healthy, easy, fun: isn't that what family dinner time should be all about? Take a bow Garofalo.
